Vol. 214 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Coast Erosion Schemes.

3.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will sanction coast erosion schemes submitted by Donegal County Council; and, if so, when.

The Donegal County Council have submitted proposals under the Coast Protection Act, 1963 for schemes at five locations, namely: Rossnowlagh, Moville, Buncrana, Magheraroarty and Ardsmore/Ardsbeg. The Act prescribes several steps in the investigation of schemes and, until the statutory requirements have been complied with, I cannot say when any scheme can be sanctioned. In the Rossnowlagh case, the preliminary examination required by section 3 has been made and a report under section 4 is being sent to the council this week. The Moville case will be dealt with in the next few months. The others will be disposed of as soon as opportunity offers.
