Vol. 215 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballymun Housing Scheme.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will outline the present position with regard to the new housing scheme at Ballymun, Dublin; and when he expects that housing will be available for occupation there.

A contract for the provision of 3,021 dwellings was signed on 2nd February, 1965. Construction of factory buildings and preliminary site works, including transfer by the ESB of overhead cables, have commenced. The laying of roads and services will commence this month and the first houses will be completed in July. Planning, design and programming for the entire contract is proceeding to schedule and, as the whole of the complex operation gains momentum, the rate of production of dwellings will increase to 1,000 a year in 1966. Simultaneously with the housing development, arrangements are being made for the provision of shopping and other facilities.
