Vol. 215 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Review of Rating System.

6.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of the Taoiseach's recent statement on the necessity for changes in the rating system, the Government have at present any concrete plans for reform of local government finance; and, if so, when it is expected that such plans will be put into effect.

7.

asked the Minister for Local Government if the review of the local authority rating system has yet concluded; and, if so, what changes are intended in the present rating system.

I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 6 and 7 together.

Considerable progress has been made with investigations into various aspects of the present system of local taxation and finance. Proposals for the introduction of any necessary changes or reforms have not yet reached the stage of final decisions.
