Vol. 215 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kilmore (Roscommon) Garda Station

26.

asked the Minister for Justice what plans he has regarding the proposed new Garda station at Kilmore, County Roscommon.

The question of providing a new station at Kilmore will be considered when experience has been gained of the working of new arrangements made for policing the area.

Because of the very bad condition of the Kilmore station building, it was necessary to close it last December. The sub-district served by the station was distributed between the neighbouring stations of Carrick-on-Shannon, Elphin, Strokestown and Rooskey. Certification work formerly done in connection with unemployed persons at Kilmore Garda station is now done by a Garda at Kilmore Parochial Hall.

The new arrangements for policing Kilmore, which is free of serious crime, are considered satisfactory by the Garda authorities but they will be kept under close review for the present.
