asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of old age pensioners who are in receipt of home assistance.

Statistics showing the number of old age pensioners in receipt of public assistance are not compiled regularly. Special returns obtained from the Public Assistance Authorities in November last, showed that approximately 3,000 old age pensioners were in receipt of public assistance at that time.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of persons in receipt of (i) contributory and (ii) non-contributory old age pensions; and the number in each category who live alone.

The latest figures available show 39,316 persons in receipt of contributory old age pension and 112,246 in receipt of non-contributory old age pension. Statistics are not available in regard to the number of pensioners who live alone.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of persons in receipt of (i) contributory and (ii) non-contributory widows' pensions; and the number of dependent children in each category.

There are 39,906 persons in receipt of widows' contributory pensions and 22,195 persons in receipt of widows' non-contributory pensions. The numbers of dependent children in each category are 13,068 and 7,505 respectively.
