Vol. 215 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Compound Manures.

31.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has seen a statement by Mr. Rickard Deasy, President of the NFA, to the effect that the price of certain compound manures exceeded by as much as forty-six per cent the price of the nitrogen, potash and phosphate manures required to make the compounds; and, if so, what action he proposes to take in the matter.

I have seen the statement referred to by the Deputy. I have already initiated a Departmental investigation into the matter.

Can the Minister say to what extent this 46 per cent is due to an inefficient process or to excess profits; or can he say whether any move is being made towards a more efficient process that would reduce this percentage?

If I knew that I would not have to make an inquiry. An inquiry has been instituted.
