Vol. 215 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork-Limerick Arterial Road.

18.

asked the Minister for Local Government if it is intended that the new arterial road from Cork to Limerick will by-pass the town of Mallow; and if, in view of the adverse effect such a road will have on business premises in Mallow and of the serious effect it will have on the economy of farmers in Mourne Abbey and the surrounding district, he will have portion of the road replanned after discussion with the representatives of trading and other interests in the town and district.

The five-year programme recently announced by me for the improvement of the defective sections of the arterial routes, includes the Cork-Mallow-Limerick road. I have no up-to-date proposals on this matter from the Cork County Council and I am not at present in a position to say what may be the appropriate treatment of the Mallow section of the route. When I have definite proposals before me, all relevant considerations will be taken into account in reaching a final decision.
