Vol. 215 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Naas Housing.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government at what date the Naas Urban Council, County Kildare, submitted for approval plans for the erection of houses on the old jail site, Naas; if he will state the reasons for the delay in sanctioning both these plans and the resale of the site from the county council to the urban council; and if, in view of the acute shortage of housing in Naas, he will now take steps to approve these plans and resale.

A proposal to acquire the old jail site for housing purposes was submitted on 3rd September, 1964. On 30th September, 1964, the council were asked to submit a location map and reports from their technical advisers. Information furnished on 30th October, 1964, was insufficient to establish the suitability of the site, and further technical reports, including a report on planning considerations, were requested on 7th January, 1965. A layout plan was submitted on 19th February but the planning report has not yet been submitted. A decision on the proposal cannot be taken until it is made available.
