Vol. 215 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Social Insurance Contributions.

42.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will give a breakdown of (a) the adult male and (b) the adult female social insurance contribution in relation to the various benefits towards which these contributions are paid.

I regret that all the information requested by the Deputy is not available. I can, however, give the breakdown in relation to old age contributory pension, widows contributory pension and orphans contributory allowance which is prepared for income tax purposes. It is as follows:—

(a) In the case of the adult male, the ordinary rate of contribution is 11s. 10d. of which 5s. 11d. is payable by the employee. The employee's share includes 1s. 5½d. in respect of old age contributory pension, and 1s. 6½d. in respect of widows contributory pension and orphans contributory allowance.

(b) In the case of the adult female, the ordinary rate of contribution is 10s. 5d. of which the employee pays 4s. 10d. The employee's share includes 1s. 5½d. in respect of old age contributory pension and 11d. in respect of widows contributory pension and orphans contributory allowance.
