Vol. 215 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Installations.

68.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of cases that respectively await installation of a telephone for more than (a) six months, (b) 12 months, (c) 18 months, (d) two years, and (e) three years; and what arrangements are being made to clear up the back-log.

The number waiting for more than six months is 8,173, including 5,693 waiting for over a year, 3,346 for over 18 months, 1,815 for over two years and 499 for over three years. Some 1,250 of these cases are at present in course of installation.

I may add that in the current financial year it is hoped to offer service to all pre-1964 applicants in all areas and to all 1964 applicants in most areas. A total of approximately 18,000 connections is planned, as against 13,726 last year.
