Vol. 215 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Post Office Telephonists.

66.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether his Department received a communication from the Telephonists' Association replying on behalf of members of the Association to the recently issued circular requesting an explanation for the withdrawal of services; whether a reply has been or will be issued to the Association; and why individual telephonists for whom the Association replied have now received a second request for an explanation.

The communication referred to by the Deputy in the first part of the question was received. It is not proposed nor would it be appropriate to reply to that communication, for the reason that the Association concerned does not hold official recongition.

With regard to the final part of the question, a second request was issued because the individual explanations previously sought had not been furnished.

67.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of full-time male telephonists employed by his Department.

The number of full-time male night telephonists employed by my Department is 312.
