asked the Minister for Education the annual cost both public and private of secondary, vocational and other approved schools of similar standards; and the total annual expenditure by local authorities on scholarships to such schools.

The estimated State expenditure on secondary education for the financial year 1965-66 is £5,545,400.

Information is not available as to expenditure on secondary schools from private sources.

Expenditure by vocational education committees in 1963-64 was £3,225,840. This figure includes fees received from pupils, which amounted to £205,255. This is the latest year for which figures are available.

In the current financial year, it is estimated that local authorities will expend about £360,000 on post-primary scholarships.
