Vol. 215 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ringsend (Dublin) Vocational School.

71.

asked the Minister for Education what is the present position in relation to the provision of a new vocational school at Ringsend, Dublin.

The provision of a new vocational school at Ringsend is bound up with the question of establishing a training centre for vocational teachers to which would be transferred the training courses which are at present conducted in the Ringsend school.

Discussions about the establishment of a new teacher training centre are in progress between officials of my Department and representatives of the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee. Until the new centre is available, the training courses must continue to be held in the Ringsend school and arrangements for the replacement of the existing school by a new building which would be on the same site cannot be proceeded with.

I shall do everything possible to ensure that the position will be reached as soon as possible when a new school can be provided at Ringsend.
