Vol. 215 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Replacement of Ships.

6.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power what vessels, if any, it will be necessary to replace in the next five years as a result of the take-over of the British and Irish Steam Packet Company; and the cost of such replacements.

The replacement of vessels is a matter of commercial policy which will arise for examination by the new Board of the British and Irish Steam Packet Co. Ltd. I am not aware that the company has as yet reached any conclusions on the question of fleet replacements.

The Deputy will find that general policy directives for the Company were recorded in a statement I made during the Second Stage of the British and Irish Steam Packet Co. Ltd. (Acquisition) Bill, 1965.
