asked the Minister for Local Government what is the maximum penalty for interference with a road traffic sign.

Under section 102 of the Road Traffic Act, 1961 the maximum penalty for interference with a road traffic sign is:

(a) for a first offence—a fine not exceeding £20,

(b) for a second or subsequent offence—a fine not exceeding £50.

(c) for a third or subsequent offence in any period of twelve consecutive months—a fine not exceeding £50 or a term of imprisonment not exceeding three months or both such fine and imprisonment.
