Vol. 216 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - CIE Insurance Cover.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government what insurance cover is provided for persons travelling free of charge on vehicles owned by Córas Iompair Éireann in the event of an accident.

In so far as insurance under the Road Traffic Act, 1961, is concerned, Córas Iompair Éireann, being an exempted person within the meaning of section 60 of the Act, is not obliged to have compulsory insurance cover for the use of its vehicles. In effect it carries its own insurance against the type of liability contemplated under that Act.
