Vol. 216 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal ESB Plant.

11.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when it is proposed to reopen the turf-burning plant of the ESB at Meenacuing, Gweedore, County Donegal.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that they expect that this station, which was taken out of service a few weeks ago for normal planned maintenance, will be reopened within a week or so.

Would it be possible to have a statement from the ESB in each year, or in the years in which maintenance repairs are being carried out, as to the exact date of the reopening of the station so as to enable turf-cutting contractors to proceed with their normal work during the period when the station is closed down?

I am not aware that they do not announce that already. I shall refer the matter to the ESB to see if it would be possible.

That date has not been announced and if the Minister would refer the question to the ESB, it would facilitate contractors.

The station is reopening in June.

If it were announced each year, or biennially, or whenever the station was being closed down, when it would reopen, it would facilitate these turf-cutting contractors.
