Vol. 216 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Loans and Grants.

33.

asked the Minister for Local Government what matters were discussed at a meeting between the house builders' section of the Federation of Builders and officials of his Department on 2nd June last; and the outcome of the meeting.

34.

asked the Minister for Local Government what steps will be taken to eliminate the delays in the payment of local authority loans, Government grants and supplementary grants which the house builders' section of the Federation of Builders complained of in their statement on 2nd June last.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 33 and 34 together.

The principal matters discussed between the representatives of the Dublin and District House Builders' Association and officers of my Department on 2nd June were the present income and maximum loan limits applicable to local authority house-purchase loans, the availability of serviced land, the existing arrangements for paying State grants and local authority grants and loans, and the current situation in regard to the making of house purchase loans by commercial agencies.

The representations made by the Association are being considered. I have no evidence of any avoidable delay where the documentation submitted to the local authority or my Department is in order. If specific cases of avoidable delay are brought to my attention, I shall have them examined either by my Department or by the local authority concerned.
