Vol. 216 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballymun Housing Estate.

41.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Local Government if his attention has been drawn to a report dealing with the proposed heating of Ballymun housing estate Dublin by oil; and if, in view of the anthracite position in counties Tipperary and Kilkenny, he will ensure that some of the products from these mines are utilised for that purpose.

I am informed that a committee of the corporation which considered the choice of fuel for district heating in the Ballymun project decided that the fuel to be used in the system to serve the flats should be oil, having regard to the likely cost falling on the tenants of using any alternative fuel. Heating for the first section of houses will be by gas-fired warm air and further consideration will be given by the corporation to the system of heating appropriate to the balance of houses in the project.
