Vol. 216 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prices of Building Materials.

8.

asked the Taoiseach if he can give the increase in the price of each of the following commodities between March, 1964, and June, 1965: timber, concrete blocks, copper piping, copper cylinders, copper boilers, windows, doors, roofing felts, tiles, joinery, paints, bathroom suites, nails, road gullies, manhole covers and frames.

The relevant data available to the Central Statistics Office consist of prices collected for the building materials index of the series of wholesale prices. Only a very limited number of price quotations are obtained for each individual item and these are furnished on the understanding that the particulars supplied are strictly confidential and are used only for the calculation of broadly based index numbers. It is not, therefore, possible to provide the commodity detail asked for by the Deputy but it can be stated that the general index of the prices of building materials rose by 3.2 per cent between March, 1964, and April, 1965, the latest available figures.
