Vol. 216 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick City Housing.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number and amount of loans outstanding under the Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts in Limerick city.

I understand that Limerick Corporation have applications for twenty house-purchase loans, to an aggregate value of about £36,000, under examination at present.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that in a circular dated 15th December, 1960, the tenants of Janesboro housing scheme at Limerick city were invited to participate in a tenant purchase scheme; that the majority of the tenants completed the application forms before 31st January, 1961; and that up to the present they have heard nothing further from the Corporation on the matter; if so, if he will give the reasons for the delay in completing the scheme; and whether it is now proposed to proceed any further in the matter.

A sales scheme in respect of 546 houses, including 272 at Janesboro, was submitted to my Department by Limerick Corporation on the 11th August, 1964, and approved on the 14th August, 1964. One hundred and twenty-two of the tenants at Janesboro decided to purchase their houses under the scheme. I understand that the reason for the delay in dealing with their applications is that an order of priority was fixed by the corporation for dealing with the sale of the houses in the various schemes on the basis of which the transfer of the Janesboro houses could not be put in train until recently. I am informed, however, that the corporation now hope to transfer the houses in question to the tenants at the rate of about 20 a month.
