Vol. 216 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Waterford Water and Sewerage Facilities.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the hardship experienced by the people of Villierstown, County Waterford, because of the lack of piped water and sewerage facilities; and that a school newly built cannot be occupied until these facilities are provided; if he will state the reason for the delay in sanctioning a water and sewerage scheme for this town, which was submitted to him some time ago; and when approval will be given.

I am aware of the need for a sewerage scheme and for the improvement of the water supply in Villierstown. Proposals for the acceptance of a tender for the sewerage scheme submitted on the 14th May were sanctioned on 1st June.

Tenders for the water supply scheme are at present being examined by my technical advisers and I hope to convey a decision thereon to Waterford County Council shortly.

There has been no undue delay in my Department in dealing with proposals submitted for these schemes.
