Vol. 216 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork-Limerick Water Supplies.

22.

asked the Minister for Local Government if any agreement has been reached between Cork County Council and Limerick County Council whereby residents of County Limerick situated on the Cork-Limerick border can obtain water from a main taking supplies from County Limerick to consumers in County Cork; if so, if he is aware that a number of Limerick residents, who have gone to trouble and expense in installing fittings in their homes and outoffices, have been refused permission by Cork County Council to connect to this main; and what action he proposes to take in the matter.

An interim agreement has been reached by Cork and Limerick County Councils for the supply of a specified quantity of water from the Mitchelstown augmentation water supply scheme for the Kilbehenny area in County Limerick. I understand that the draft of a formal agreement, prepared by the Cork County Solicitor, will be sent to Limerick County Council for approval.

I am not aware that the position is as stated in the second part of the Deputy's question. I am informed that the conditions laid down by Cork County Council for a water supply to two residents in County Limerick have been agreed by both local authorities and that the work of connection to the mains to serve these houses will be carried out by Limerick County Council which has been awaiting the delivery of materials for the purpose.
