Vol. 216 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Guild of Insurance Officials.

16.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he has been informed by the Insurance Corporation of Ireland that the company has, in effect, refused to accept the terms of the Labour Court's recommendation urging the company to recognise and negotiate with the Guild of Insurance Officials which has organised the bulk of the company's employees; and what action he proposes to take in face of this denial of trade union recognition.

I have not been so informed by the Insurance Corporation of Ireland.

Now the Minister is aware of the situation, is it his intention to make some recommendations?

I have considered that possibility but I do not think it would be necessary, perhaps not even desirable, at this stage. It is a consideration.

Obviously it is necessary if the company have turned down the recommendations of the Labour Court.

They have not refused to accept the recommendations of the Labour Court either.
