Vol. 217 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Estate Duties on Agricultural Land.

26.

asked the Minister for Finance the amount of estate duties collected on agricultural land in the last financial year for which figures are available.

Death duty statistics are not compiled in such a manner as to show the total amount of such duties which are payable on agricultural land, but it is estimated that for the year 1963-64 the figure would have been in the region of £300,000.

Would the Minister consider removing death duties from agricultural land in view of the drain on the amount of capital left to those who have to pay these duties?

That is a separate question.

It is a very wide question. I think we will be able to discuss that in detail on the Committee Stage of the Finance Bill. There are some amendments dealing with that matter.
