Vol. 217 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Housing.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position regarding the new housing scheme at Lifford, County Donegal; the number of houses to be built; when it is hoped to commence the scheme; and if he is satisfied that this number will satisfy the needs of the Lifford area.

Contract documents are being prepared by the housing authority for the erection of 12 houses and for the development of 14 private sites. I understand that tenders will be invited shortly but I am not in a position to say when work will be commenced. The need for further houses in the area is being investigated by the housing authority.

31.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will make a statement regarding the delay in the erection of council cottages at Manor-cunningham, County Donegal; and if, in view of the great need for rehousing in the area, he will hasten his decision.

There are no proposals for the erection of houses at Manor-cunningham awaiting my decision. I am informed that some 20 houses are needed in the area. The housing authority have already acquired a site for 6 houses and intend to acquire a further site to meet the balance of the needs. They have been awaiting the provision of the new water supply for the town before proceeding with the six-house scheme.

32.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the delay in relation to the erection of new houses in Rathmullen, County Donegal.

A layout plan was submitted last January for a further ten houses at Rathmullen. Following discussions in February with officers of my Department, the council's officers made trial borings on the site and found that the proposed layout was not feasible. An alternative layout plan was submitted last month and was the subject of further discussions on the site last week. Agreement was reached on a basis for revised plans which are now being prepared by the consultant architect.

33.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of applications received by the Donegal County Council for the small farmers housing scheme; the date of the first application; the number sanctioned by the Donegal County Council; and the number built to date.

I am informed by Donegal County Council that they have received 233 applications under the scheme, that the first application was received on 7th July, 1964, and that 30 applications have been approved to date. No houses have been built yet under the scheme.

34.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position regarding the new housing scheme at Convoy, County Donegal; the number of houses to be erected; and when it is hoped to commence the scheme.

I understand that contract documents for a scheme of 14 houses at Convoy are being prepared by the housing authority and that tenders will be invited shortly. I am not in a position to say when work on the scheme will be commenced.

35.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the Bridgend, County Donegal, No. 2 housing scheme; when it is proposed to commence it; the number of houses to be erected; and if he is satisfied that this number will meet the needs of the district.

I understand that the housing authority are investigating the housing needs of this area with a view to deciding the number of houses to be built on the site recently acquired for the purpose. I am not in a position to say when work on the scheme will be commenced.
