Calfhood vaccination is a preliminary to the later introduction of area eradication measures and has been introduced in the eleven main dairying and breeding counties where, it is anticipated, area eradication cannot be commenced for some years, possibly five. In the meantime, however, area eradication measures will be started in the north-west and will be extended progressively to the other counties, including Carlow.
