Vol. 217 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois-Offaly Lands.

18.

asked the Minister for Lands what is the position in regard to the Feeney Estate, Dovehill, Kilcormac, County Offaly, in view of the fact that this holding of 120 acres is set to a landowner who already owns 500 acres of land in another county; and if, having regard to the congestion existing amongst small-holders in the area, he will have these lands acquired for division without delay.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his previous question on 11th February last about this estate. The inquiries mentioned therein are nearing completion and it is hoped that an early decision will be reached in the matter.

19.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to allot the lands of Seamus Burke, at Ballinahowan and Garryheather, Clonaslee, County Laois (Record No. S22543), amongst the many local deserving smallholders and others who require additional land, having regard to the congestion which exists in this district.

Whilst agreement was reached some time ago for the purchase of this 123 acre property from the owner on a voluntary basis, arrangements for taking possession of the lands have not yet proved feasible. In the circumstances, the question of allotment does not arise at this stage.

20.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to divide the lands on the McNamee Estate, Ballybrittan, Edenderry, County Offaly (Record No. U.C.314); and if it is hoped to allot these lands during the present year.

It is not yet possible to indicate when allotment of this 223 acre estate will be feasible but there will be no avoidable delay.

21.

asked the Minister for Lands the present position in regard to the estate of William Conroy (Hipwell), Oldtown, Portlaoise, County Laois (Record No. S.22800); and if these lands will be divided amongst the local applicants during the coming year.

This 295 acre property did not come into the possession of the Land Commission until November last. Pending completion of the necessary inquiries on the ground it is not possible to forecast when the scheme of division will be formulated.
