Vol. 217 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Speed Limits.

52.

asked the Minister for Local Government when it is intended to apply speed limits to the villages of Caherconlish, Cappamore and Doon, County Limerick.

The desirability of applying speed limits to the villages of Caherconlish, Cappamore and Doon will be examined during the review of speed limits on non-arterial routes being carried out at present.

53.

asked the Minister for Local Government why there are no speed limit signs at the entrances to the town of Ballymote, County Sligo; if he is aware that the local technical committee made certain recommendations which were approved by Sligo County Council and then forwarded to his Department; and that Ballymote was not included in the recommendations forwarded by his Department to Sligo County Council.

The Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (Amendment) Regulations, 1965, which came into operation on 1st June affect only speed limits on arterial routes. Ballymote is not on an arterial route. I am having speed limits on non-arterial roads reviewed at present and the recommendations of the technical committee for County Sligo will be taken into account during this review.
