Question:

136 Mr. Kavanagh asked the Minister for the Environment the number of applications which have been received to date for the refurbishment of local authority homes under the scheme for improving these houses.

Applications for funding under the remedial works scheme have been received in respect of 154 estates.

137 Mr. Kavanagh asked the Minister for the Environment the number of applications in respect of housing units which have been (a) received and (b) finalised since 1 January 1992 under the following schemes (1) rental subsidy scheme, (2) capital grants scheme for voluntary housing, (3) sale of subsidised housing sites and (4) mortgage subsidy scheme.

Question:

138 Mr. Kavanagh asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the number of applications under the shared ownership scheme that have been (a) received and (b) finalised since 1 January 1992.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 137 and 138 together.

On the basis of the most recent information in my Department the following is the position:

1. Rental Subsidy Scheme:

From the inception of the scheme up to 31 March, 1992 local authorities had received proposals for a total of 24 projects comprising 409 dwellings. Of these, 3 projects (27 dwellings) had been commenced and one (9 dwellings) completed.

2. Capital Grants Scheme for Voluntary Housing:

From 1 January, 1992 to date a total of 32 applications (comprising 292 dwellings) have been received in my Department and 9 projects (comprising 155 dwellings) have been approved.

3. Sale of Subsidised Housing Sites:

From 1 January to 31 March, 1992 applications had been received by local authorities for 204 sites and 44 sites had been approved for sale.

4. Mortgage Allowance Scheme:

From 1 January to 31 March, 1992 local authorities had received 79 applications and 62 final approvals had issued.

5. Shared Ownership:
From 1 January to 31 March, 1992 local authorities had received 524 applications and 46 transactions were completed.
