Vol. 217 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Redundant Flourmill Employees.

89.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will supplement the compensation scheme for redundant employees in the milling industry as the present compensation scheme amounts to only one week's pay for each year of service and was arranged with the Irish Flour Millers' Association without any consultation with the employees.

I understand that when this scheme was introduced, the proposals for compensation were discussed between the millowners and trade unions representing the workers concerned. It is not intended that the State should supplement this scheme.
