Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Oral Irish Examination.

63.

asked the Minister for Education if as a result of the success of the oral Irish examination at leaving certificate level he will introduce it at both primary and intermediate certificate levels.

As indicated in the White Paper on the restoration of the Irish language and as announced in my speech introducing my Estimate to Dáil Éireann this year, I propose to discuss the matter of introducing an oral Irish examination at the primary certificate level with the relevant organisations.

As announced in the same speech also, the introduction of an oral Irish examination at intermediate certificate level is at present under active consideration in my Department.
