Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Families in Dublin Barracks.

26.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of the hardship already suffered by some families in Griffith Barracks, Dublin who have been there over a year, he will have steps taken in co-operation with the Dublin Corporation to ensure that all families who have been more than a year in Griffith Barracks will be housed immediately

The families accommodated by the Dublin Health Authority in Griffith Barracks are considered for re-housing on the basis of the general housing priorities at present observed by Dublin Corporation as and when vacancies occur. I understand that on this basis 22 such families have been re-housed in the period since it was first used for the purpose. The priorities have been decided by Dublin Corporation and are not matters in which I can interfere. As I indicated in a reply on this subject last week, the expanded rate of completions in the corporation's schemes, and the progress being achieved on the Ballymun project should ensure an early and material improvement in the general housing position in the city.
