Vol. 217 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Forestry Works.

53.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that a number of forestry workers have been laid off in the Ballycastle area of North Mayo with consequent serious hardship to them; and what steps he proposes to take to remedy this situation.

I am aware that there has been a reduction in the number of men employed at Ballycastle forest. Additional work will be available at the forest during the coming year which will increase employment. As the work will be in areas remote from those in which men have been laid off there is little hope of immediate reemployment at the forest for these men.
