Vol. 217 No. 8

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - County Sligo Coast Erosion.

15.

asked the Minister for Finance if any action has been taken to prevent coast erosion at Strandhill, County Sligo.

16.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware of the very serious damage being caused to private and public property, due to coastal erosion, at Strandhill, Co. Sligo; and what urgent measures will be taken to prevent private residences near the shore from being washed into the sea.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 15 and 16 together. Under the Coast Protection Act, 1963, the promotion of a protection scheme is a matter for the local authority. No proposal for a coast protection scheme at Strandhill has been received by the Commissioners of Public Works from the Sligo County Council.
