Vol. 217 No. 8

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Leitrim River Drainage.

14.

asked the Minister for Finance when drainage work on the Bonet river, County Leitrim, will commence; and if there are any other drainage schemes being prepared for Counties Leitrim and Sligo.

It is hoped to complete the survey of the Bonet catchment this year. The design of a scheme will then be put in hands and, if an economic scheme can be prepared, the requirements of the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, as regards exhibition, etc., will have to be complied with. I cannot, at this stage, state a date for commencement of works, but I can assure the Deputy that there will be no avoidable delay.

A survey of the Owenmore catchment has been put in hands with a view to the preparation of a scheme. The Boyle catchment which is under survey includes a small part of County Sligo, and a small area in County Leitrim will be affected by the scheme being prepared for the portion of the Erne catchment outfalling at Belturbet.

County Leitrim will later be affected by any scheme for the Shannon catchment.
