Vol. 217 No. 8

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Cytological Service Technicians.

43.

asked the Minister for Health what measures are being taken to introduce training for technicians under the proposed cytological service.

Mr. O'Malley

Dublin Health Authority has appointed two Senior Laboratory Technicians for the cytology service which is being established at St. Kevin's Hospital. One of these technicians has been sent to England for a three-month course in cytology and arrangements are being made for the second technician to undertake a similar course. In addition, a laboratory technician in the Regional Laboratory in Galway has completed a four-month course in cytology in the United States,

These technicians will form the nucleus of the technician staff for the cytology service in its early stages. The further requirements of the service in the matter of technical personnel will be decided in the light of its future development.
