asked the Minister for Transport and Power the names and number of industries that have received Government grants, etc. directly from his Department or from bodies under the aegis of his Department during the past five years, which have since gone out of existence.

With your permission, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 8, 9 and 10 together.

In the five years ended 31st March, 1965, grants totalling £785,604 were paid by the Shannon Free Airport Development Company Limited to 14 firms established at Shannon Airport Information as to the amounts of individual grants is contained in the annual reports and accounts of the Development Company which are presented to both Houses of the Oireachtas. The report and accounts for the year ended 31st March, 1965, will be presented shortly. The grants are not repayable unless a company ceases production within a specified period. Three industries—Pall-Shannon Ltd., Industrial Components (Ireland) Ltd., and W.B. Pink Ltd. which received a total of £57,355 by way of grants have ceased operations at Shannon; these industries have repaid or are about to repay a total of £34,780.

Grants for fuel efficiency surveys are also administered by my Department. Since 1st April, 1960, non-repayable grants totalling £14,088 have been paid to 38 firms towards the cost of the engagement of consultants to carry out such surveys. As far as I am aware, none of the firms to whom grants have been paid has gone out of existence. The names of the firms are in a tabular statement which, with your permission, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report.

Could the Minister say what is the specified period within which firms must repay the grant?

I do not follow the Deputy.

In the course of his reply, the Minister said they are not liable to repay the grant if they continue in production for a specified period. Could the Minister state what that period of time is?

I am not able to say exactly. The Deputy will have to ask another question about it.
