Vol. 217 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Roads.

19.

asked the Minister for Local Government the latest position relating to the proposal to reconstruct the Long Mile Road, Walkinstown and Walkinstown Cross, Dublin; when work is likely to commence; and if, in the meantime, work will be executed to make both places safer for pedestrians and vehicular traffic.

A tender for improving the Long Mile Road has recently been accepted by Dublin Corporation and I understand that work will commence as soon as the necessary legal formalities have been completed. The provision of a roundabout at Walkinstown has again been proposed by Dublin County Council as one of their Main Road Improvement Grant Schemes for 1965-66. Execution of the work is, I understand, conditional on the council's resolving certain acquisition difficulties.

Can the Minister say whether or not these difficulties have recently been overcome, as I understand an alternative site has been offered to the party concerned?

There is no information available to me to suggest that. It is unlikely that there will be any change in the situation, unless some other steps are proposed on this occasion.

20.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Minister for Local Government what action he proposes to take to remedy the shocking surface condition of the East Wall Road, Dublin from Annesley Bridge to St. Mary's Road, which now constitutes a menace to traffic.

I understand from Dublin Corporation that the improvement of this section of East Wall Road is contingent on the completion of related works which are in progress on the River Tolka.
