Vol. 217 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fire Insurance.

32.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, having regard to widespread annoyance being caused by the imposition by insurance companies of new conditions including conditions of coverage relating to the minimum value of house property insured against fire, he proposes to take action in the matter; whether he has considered referring to the Fair Trade Commission for inquiry the practice by insurance companies of making agreements between themselves to impose uniform conditions on clients; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

These conditions relate to the detailed administration of their business by insurance companies in which I do not think it desirable that I should intervene. With regard to the question of uniform rates, no doubt the Deputy is aware that there are several companies which are not parties to any agreements on rates or conditions.

I am not so aware. I should like to know the names of them.
