Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Emigration Statistics.

3.

asked the Taoiseach the total number of people who have emigrated from Ireland (a) between 1922 and the last census and (b) between 1932 and last census.

As explained on many previous occasions, on satisfactory method exists for measuring total emigration and estimates are available in respect of net emigration only, that is the excess of emigration over immigration.

It is estimated that between April, 1922, and April, 1961, net emigration from the State amounted to 1,005,000 persons, while in the period April, 1932, to April, 1961, net emigration amounted to 763,000 persons.
