Vol. 217 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

4.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if it is a fact that rural electrification is being delayed by virtue of the fact that electricians have been employed to collect accounts and read meters.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that rural electrification is not being delayed for this or any other reason.

Is it not a fact that electricians are employed on this line of business?

The electricians would read meters only at the time of installation or if a person proffered payment when his meter was about to be disconnected for non-payment or in such circumstances as vacating of premises. Apart from that, electricians in the ordinary way are not employed on such work.

Will the Minister accept that I have it from some of the electricians that they have been so employed?

They are employed only on the duties I have referred to.
