Vol. 217 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Galway Mining Applications.

54.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if any applications have been made to his Department in connection with any type of mining purposes in West Galway; and, if so, if he will make a statement on the matter.

Three applications for mining facilities are under consideration in my Department at the moment but I regret that I cannot give any information on these applications at this stage.

In addition three State mining leases have been granted over three areas in the townlands of Barnanoraun, Cregg and Tievebreen in West Galway, all in respect of marble and other minerals.

Three State mining permissions, allowing in each case the removal of a maximum of 100 tons of serpentinous marble, have been granted in respect of lands at Glencoaghan, Tievebaun and Cloonacartan. A further State mining permission, allowing the removal of 1,000 tons of serpentinous marble, has been granted over lands at Cloonacartan.
