Vol. 218 No. 1

Written Answers. - Election of Non-Nationals to Local Bodies.

240.

Mr. Barrett

asked the Minister for Local Government if non-nationals are entitled to be elected to local bodies such as county councils, borough councils or urban district councils; and, if so, under what conditions.

Subarticle (4) (a) of article 12 of the Schedule to the Local Government (Application of Enactments) Order, 1898, provides that an alien is disqualified for election to a county, county borough, borough or urban district council or to a town commissioners. A non-national who is not an alien would not be so disqualified.
