Vol. 218 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Intermediate Certificate Results.

196.

Mr. Barrett

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that the late publication of the results of the intermediate certificate examination is the cause of much inconvenience to schools, children and parents; and if he will investigate the possibility of ensuring that the results will in future years be published before the children return to their schools.

I am aware that the late issue of the results of the intermediate certificate examination causes inconvenience.

The steady annual increase in the number of candidates at the certificate examinations increases the difficulty of ensuring the earlier issue of results. For example, in the ten year period from 1956 to 1965 the number taking the certificate examinations increased from 19,201 in 1956 to 31,748 in 1965. However, I am having a detailed examination carried out of all the processes involved with a view to ensuring the earlier issue of the results in future.
