Vol. 218 No. 2

Written Answers. - Gratuities for Forestry Workers.

214.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state in respect of each forestry centre the appropriate number of forestry workers at present qualified to receive a gratuity under section 4 of the Superannuation Act, 1887; the amount of gratuity now payable under that Act; and the title of the administration order under which gratuities are payable.

These gratuities are granted under section 4 of the Superannuation Act, 1887, as amended by section 2 of the Superannuation and Pensions Act, 1963. In the case of death, the gratuity is granted to the dependants of the person concerned under section 3 of the Superannuation Act, 1914. There is no Administrator or other Order relating to these gratuities.

The principal qualification for the grant of a gratuity is seven full years of whole-time service paid from voted moneys, but as an award can be made only to an employee who retires on age or ill-health or who is discharged in the circumstances set out in section 4 of the 1887 Act, it is not possible to determine how many serving employees will be granted gratuities.

The amount of the gratuity is one week's pay for each year of service up to fifteen years and two weeks' pay for each year of service after that.

The Dáil adjourned at 5.30 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 27th October, 1965.
