Vol. 218 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authority Loans.

18.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give in respect of the period July 1965 to date, as regards local authority loans which have not been sanctioned, details of (a) housing loans, list of proposals, (b) water and sewerage loans, list of proposals, and (c) other loans, list of proposals.

The Deputy's question could be interpreted as a request for a list of all proposals at all stages of processing which would involve borrowing and which may eventually mature for sanction. If the Deputy repeats his question in a week and confines it to loan applications in respect of approved proposals a more detailed reply will be considered.

I think the Minister is aware of the information I require in this connection. I quite appreciate that he could take the interpretation which keeps him from answering this question today but if the week's delay means that the Minister hopes to be in a position to supply the money to the people who have asked for it in the meantime, then I am quite happy to leave it for a week. If not, I think the Minister should say the money is not available and not have the local authority members put in the awkward position in which they find themselves trying to explain away why money they were supposed to have received to produce houses cannot now be produced.

That is not what the Deputy is asking me.

I am asking for information as to whether or not this refusal to grant money for loan purposes is on a widespread scale.

In view of the very wide manner in which the question is framed if the Deputy wishes to repeat or make a request by a question in a week's time and confine it to loan applications in respect of approved proposals, I could probably get this for him in a very short time.
