Vol. 218 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Private Planting Grants.

93.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will increase the grant fixed several years ago for private planting, in view of the fact that costs have risen steeply since then; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am satisfied that the grant of £20 per acre is reasonable by reference to present level of costs and no increase is contemplated.

When was that grant fixed?

It was fixed in 1959. It was increased from £10 to £20 in 1959.

Does the Parliamentary Secretary not think it time that at least another £5 should go on to that?

It is considered that the increase covers subsequent increases in planting costs.
