Vol. 218 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Holdings Purchased from Farmers.

92.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state to date the number of holdings purchased from farmers who are retiring or unable to work their own holdings and who are in receipt of the benefits outlined in the recent Land Act; and if he is satisfied with the progress made to date in this regard.

Presumably the Deputy is referring to the life-annuity scheme which has been authorised in outline by section 6 of the recent Land Act. Substantial progress has been made on the preparation of the detailed regulations and actuarial tables which are necessary to make the section fully operative.

It is hoped to lay the regulations before the House during the present session.
