Vol. 218 No. 3

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take No. 5 on the Order Paper. Private Members' Business will be taken from 6 to 7.30 p.m., No. 13 on the Order Paper, Second Stage, resumed. The Dáil will meet next week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

In view of the important statement made outside the House last night by the Taoiseach, I would ask if he intends to give the House the benefit of his views now or at any future date on that statement?

I have done so before and will probably do so again.

There are new matters mentioned in the Taoiseach's statement of last night which could very well be ventilated and discussed here and we wish to know if the Taoiseach intends to give an opportunity to the House for such a discussion?

I have no doubt the opportunity will present itself.

Does the Taoiseach intend to give us that opportunity?

I am sure it will present itself.

That is the sort of insolent answer we get from the Government. Apparently they do not want co-operation.

(Interruptions.)

The Taoiseach has said that he has done so in the past and will do so again. Is he going to have a debate on the new measures he announced last night?

Not at all. He will have another dinner at the chamber of commerce.

Mr. Barrett

Would the Taoiseach let us know what dinner the next announcement will be made at so that we can be present to hear it?

I have no doubt the delegates to the Árd Fheis in the Gallery are impressed.

(Interruptions.)

Mr. Barrett

They are not getting as good value as Dublin Chamber of Commerce.

Somebody was talking yesterday about a disorganised rabble. Do not be a disorganised rabble.

Your rabble is not even here.

Has the Cabinet resigned?

Did I gather from the Taoiseach that he originally had intended to make a statement?

No; the statement will be made in the House as the occasion arises.

I wish to say that we regard the situation in which the Taoiseach will not make a statement to the House as unsatisfactory.
